Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust

6 training places available on the hospital programme.

The foundation training programme with Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust is based at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham, Portsmouth.

The training programme

The well established training programme at Portsmouth builds an excellent foundation in the clinical skills and knowledge needed to become an accomplished pharmacist. Trainees benefit from highly experienced designated supervisors and an open door ethos that provides them with the necessary support. An extensive range of on and off-site rotations makes up the comprehensive structured rotational programme.

Rotations cover core specialties as well as more complex areas (such as the Wessex Regional Renal Unit, oncology, ITU, paediatrics and clinical trials) and secondments to Southampton’s Regional Medicines Advice Service, the local mental health trust, CCG, community pharmacy and Portsmouth’s own licensed aseptic manufacturing unit. The programme is complemented by regional training, regular meetings with the trainees’ designated supervisor, and group teaching sessions at the hospital and with other Hampshire trainee pharmacists.
