Sri Kandiah

Professor Sri Kandiah has been supporting the Wessex PSW since 2009, has been a Wessex PSW Specialist Support Group (SSG) cultural challenges expert since 2017, and was a case manager from 2019 to 2021.

Sri is a BSc, MBA and Visiting Professor, and is a respected and experienced leadership professional with Board level experience. Sri is a mentor, coach, counsellor and a wellbeing champion for the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Southampton.

Common themes which continue to emerge regularly in Sri’s support for the trainees are; aspects of professionalism, building rapport, speaking English (with confidence and authority), assertive behaviour (including how to say no), improving verbal and non-verbal communication, inter-personal skills, and coping with pressure and stress.

Sri often supplements these themes by helping trainees to improve management and leadership skills, as well as providing emotional and wellbeing support – using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) techniques, yoga and mindfulness light meditation practices.

In his role as cultural challenges expert, Sri has been offering support to doctors in the above areas, which are often multi-layered and complex.

In 2018, Sri was awarded a Queen’s Award for his voluntary services as the Chair of One Community, a charitable institution providing service and support to people wishing to live independent lives. He is also co-founder and past chair of Southampton Council of Faiths.

Other experience over the last 25 years includes;

– Post Lawrence, cross-cultural training/advisory work with Metropolitan Police and the College of Policing

– Designing and conducting cross-cultural training seminars for GSK, Eastleigh Borough Council, Standard Chartered Bank and Royal Mail (to name a few)
