The Cancer and Diagnostic programme, working within the Workforce Training and Education Directorate of NHS England in the South East continues to work closely with multiple partners to support delivery of cancer and diagnostic services by having the right people, with the right skills, in the right roles at the right time. Round 2 Applications are now open for funded initiatives we hope to be able to support in 2024/25. More details, including how to apply, can be found by clicking links below. Please kindly note:
– Funding for some initiatives has not yet been confirmed. If applications are successful and funding is confirmed, all funding must be fully utilised within this financial year. Names and further details of individual courses, for example, will be required before any funding can be transferred.
– Outcome for applications submitted in Round 1 (March/April) are in the process of being communicated. There is no need to resubmit earlier applications.

Cancer
Chemotherapy Nursing funding
Supporting the development of new and existing chemotherapy nurses to meet identified development needs across: specialist areas of training, leadership, communication and research.

Explore new routes into and the development of care/pathway navigators, including upskilling and apprenticeships, to maximise impact of the roles
This funding offer is being routed through SE Cancer Alliances and SE Community Diagnostics Centres with the exception of Trusts within Kent & Medway Cancer Alliance who should apply directly on the link below. Endoscopy
Clinical Endoscopy Programme funding
Fully funded intensive training programme (both academic and clinical education and training), to train and upskill existing healthcare staff to become proficient clinical endoscopists, increasing capacity to allow consultants to perform more complex cases (including screening).

We are also funding Clinical Endoscopists to complete Train the Trainer and Polypectomy upskilling courses, as well as opportunities to complete academic modules to help current and future Clinical Endoscopists practice independently.

Imaging
Reporting Radiographer funding
To support the upskilling of radiographers in image interpretation and reporting, increasing the number of radiographers who can contribute to image interpretation and reporting within clinical imaging teams.
Imaging and Radiography Apprenticeship funding
Development of the imaging and radiography workforce at all levels through apprenticeship programmes from Level 3 – Level 6.
Imaging Practice Education funding
To provide support for learners at all levels, through all routes of education and training, supporting new and existing practice education roles where appropriate, and increasing of practice placement capacity. To include: sonography, mammography, medical physics, clinical engineering, educational route additional support, diagnostic and therapeutic radiographers for all levels of learners.

Career Development and Upskilling of the Imaging and Radiography Workforce funding
To support the upskilling of the imaging and radiography workforce through all four core pillars of practice; clinical, education, research and leadership. Please note we will be prioritising applications for research.

Pathology apprenticeship funding

Supporting the development of the pathology workforce through apprenticeship training grants across Pathology and Life Sciences for Level, 2, 4 and 6.
Pathology Practice Education funding
Support the growth and transformation of the pathology workforce through a dedicated Pathology Network Practice Educator. Please note this offer will be managed directly with South East Pathology Networks.
