Examinations

In Wessex, Public Health Registrars take the Diplomate exam in their first or second year of training after the successful completion of the Masters in Public Health.

We provide all registrars with an intense revision timetable leading up to these examinations. This ensures that they feel fully supported and ready for the examination process and content.

Diplomate Examination

Designed to determine candidates’ knowledge and understanding of the scientific basis of public health the Diplomate examination also tests their ability to apply their knowledge and skills to the practice of public health.

There are two written examination papers consists (Paper I and Paper II). Both papers are split into two parts A and B. (e.g Paper IA, Paper IB, Paper IIA and Paper IIB). These are taken over two consecutive days.

Final Membership Examination

The Final Membership examination is the Observed Structured Public Health Exam (OSPHE). This is usually taken around 12 months after the Diplomate examination. There are six “stations”. At each “station” registrars are given a task to perform which tests their skills and attitudes relating to every day public health issues in commonly experienced settings.
