Public Health School Board

The Thames Valley and Wessex Schools of Public Health now work together as a sub-region of the South Health Education England (HEE) footprint. This includes Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Dorset, Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Milton Keynes.

The Thames Valley and Wessex Schools of Public Health work to support the Public Health Development Programmes, which align with local public health priorities and national HEE mandate deliverables. They deliver high-quality training, education and workforce development for the core and wider public health workforce. This includes:

  • Public Health Specialty training
  • Public Health Practitioner Development Programme
  • Public Health training, education and skills development programme
  • Public Health Development Networks
  • Making Every Contact Count Programme
  • Public Health Wider Workforce Development programme

Purpose of School Board

The Sub-regional School Board will provide assurance and governance by:

  • Providing strategic leadership to inform the priorities aligned to the local system, academia and HEE mandate
  • Ensuring that training received is demonstrably of the required quality as set out by the GMC (General Medical Council)
  • Providing a forum to support and constructively challenge the Schools in their delivery of core and wider workforce programmes
  • Assuring financial resources are appropriately used and targeted to maximise the benefit for training
  • Receiving workforce planning information to further inform local and sub-regional priorities and programmes
