The South East School of Public Health Statement on Specialist Registration by Portfolio route
The retrospective route to registration was formally opened on the 1st Sept 2018 by UKPHR. The purpose of this new route was to bring it in line with the Certificate of Eligibility of Specialist Registration (CESR) route (www.gmc-uk.org) ensuring there is equivalence to those working at a senior/public health specialist level who come from a background other than medicine, to gain a specialist registration.

Public Health organisations across the region have agreed to work collectively to deliver a one-off development programme which is likely to run in 2025. The aim of the development programme is to support senior individuals working at Consultant in Public Health level to complete a pre-application to UKPHR.
Further information on how to apply to the development programme is expected later in the Autumn (2024). Information will be shared across the region via public health employers (local authority, UKHSA, OHID, NHSE public health directorate).
It should be noted that the School currently does not support a programme for registration via the CESR route. The School recognises the value in having equivalent registration routes for both medics and those coming from a background other than medicine in Public Health.
Registration to the national specialty training programme will open in November 2024, National Public Health Specialty Training Recruitment – FPH – Faculty of Public Health
