Apart form the extensive education programmes in well-stablished training sites across Wessex, there is monthly SpR rolling training at Salisbury that provides the whole core curriculum over a three-year period.
There is also a six-monthly Wessex diabetes/endocrine training day for all consultants, trainees and other MDT members.

- Isle of Wight
- Queen Alexandra Hospital, Portsmouth
- Salisbury District Hospital
- Southampton General Hospital
Other opportunities
Out-of-programme actitvities include research, both within and outside Wessex and clinical fellowships, including international attachments. Research locally includes diabetes and cardiovascular disease, lipid metabolism, hypoglycaemia, foot disease and so on.
Specialist Registrar’s are encouraged to attend national meetings, like those held by Diabetes UK and the British Endocrine Society, and international meetings, like the European Association for the Study of Diabetes and the International Congress Endocrinology.
Many specialties also dual accredit with General Internal Medicine G(I)M. There is a comprehensive programme of training days arranged throughout the year covering the G(I)M curriculum.
There is excellent experience of unselected medical on-call available throughout the region.
