The UK has been at the forefront of modern primary care development, and many countries continue to look to the NHS as a model to emulate. However, primary and community care services face major challenges with an increasing workload, an ageing population and increasingly complex medical problems being diagnosed, and managed, in the community.
Development across Wessex
HEE Wessex is working with multiple stakeholders to help overcome these challenges by training GPs, upskilling the existing workforce and developing new roles to shape the primary care workforce of the future.
We have created a School of General Practice to support and develop general practitioners, and created Primary Care Training Hubs to train and develop the multi-professional primary care workforce.
