Public Health School Board

Within the South East Region there are three Schools of Public Health which are overseen by the NHSE WT&E South East School Board:

  • The Thames Valley School of Public Health covers Buckinghamshire, Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Milton Keynes
  • The Kent, Surrey and Sussex School of Public Health covers Kent, Surrey and Sussex local authorities
  • The Wessex School of Public Health includes Hampshire, Isle of Wight, Portsmouth and Southampton

The Schools work to support the Public Health Development Programmes in their respective areas, which align with local public health priorities, the South East Workforce Development Plan and national NHSE WT&E priorities. They deliver high-quality training, education and workforce development for the core and wider public health workforce.

This includes:

  • Public Health Specialty training
  • Public Health Practitioner Development Programme
  • Public Health training, education and skills development programme
  • Public Health Development Networks
  • Making Every Contact Count Programme
  • Public Health Wider Workforce Development programme

Purpose of School Board

The South East School Board provides assurance and governance by:

  • Providing strategic leadership to inform the priorities aligned to the local system, academia and NHSE WT&E workforce priorities.
  • Ensuring that training received is demonstrably of the required quality as set out by the GMC (General Medical Council).
  • Providing a forum to support and constructively challenge the Schools in their delivery of core and wider workforce programmes.
  • Assuring financial resources are appropriately used and targeted to maximise the benefit for training.
  • Receiving workforce planning information to further inform local and sub-regional priorities and programmes.
