Welcome to Mid-Wessex GP Education. We are proud to be the home of GP training in England, with the first scheme of its type being introduced in partnership between St Clements Surgery, Winchester and the Royal Hampshire County Hospital in 1959 (The Nuffield Wessex Scheme). Furthermore, in 1965 the first day release course in the country for GP trainees was established in Winchester and Southampton1. The model for GP training eventually developed and spread across the country and today we are proud to work with many wonderful training practices and hospitals in the region offering diverse and interesting placements.
We have a fantastic track record for enthusiastic GP trainers and have an experienced team of medical educators who are constantly evolving the training scheme so that it moves with the times.
The patch office consists of an associate dean, administrative team, and a dedicated team of Training Programme Directors (TPDs). Our role includes, but is not limited to; planning and allocating training placements, approving and supporting GP trainers, and planning and facilitating teaching across GPST1, ST2 and ST3.
Whether you are a trainer or trainee, training in Mid-Wessex means you are a valuable part of our long history. Mid-Wessex is also a beautiful part of the country. Our trainees are typically keen to live and stay in the area once they have completed their training. We look forward to working with you.
