Recognition of Supervisor process

It is imperative that educational and clinical supervision is only provided to trainees by GMC recognised Educational and Named Clinical or Project Supervisors.

If a supervisor is not recognised, the GMC could decide this period of training does not count towards CCT and the doctor in postgraduate training would have to extend their training time.

For doctors in postgraduate training, it is equally important to check that their supervisors are GMC recognised, for every post. This information can be gained by asking the supervisor directly or by checking the GMC website.

When completing the process of becoming a supervisor your trust email address will be included in the Wessex Supervisor Database and will be used for any activities relating to recognition of trainers. Please note the database is shared with our trusts to help with the allocation of supervisors and with the GMC to update your entry on the GMC Medical Register and to take part in the annual GMC survey.
