Training Locations

Training is provided in Southampton Children’s Hospital and district general hospitals in Poole, Dorchester, Salisbury, Basingstoke, Winchester and Portsmouth.

Southampton Children’s Hospital provides comprehensive tertiary sub-specialist services for the region and supports networks of specialist care with our partner hospitals. All trainees will have opportunities to rotate through the Regional Centre to gain special interest or sub-specialty training as well as working with the district network.

Other opportunities

All of our hospitals provide their own educational programmes in addition to our regional training programme. We encourage the completion of Special Paediatric Interest (SPIN) modules, attendance at a wide range of personal and professional development courses available through our Learning and Development section, and attendance at our bi-annual regional paediatric meeting.

We are particularly keen on learning through simulation. Our high fidelity simulation programme extends into all aspects of paediatric care and professional development and is delivered across the region.

There are many opportunities for Out of Programme training. These include overseas experience through our leadership programme in developing countries, our exchange programme with Melbourne, Australia and numerous fellowship programmes within Wessex.
