Hampshire and Isle of Wight General Practice Nursing Conference

It was a pleasure to join you and your audience of Practice Nurses during your Annual Conference. I remember from my interactions with them last year how committed they all are to making a positive contribution to women’s health in the community. That is exactly what the NHS 10-year plan is all about. A major left shift away from the hospital towards community, a move from analogue to digital and perhaps most importantly a mindset change from a health service that focuses on disease interventions to instead using every opportunity to prevent ill health developing. The economic, equity and moral arguments for this left shift are irrefutable. It is heart warming for me to hear that there are so many nursing colleagues who actively want to participate in this shift, because wherever nurses are based, they are of course the overwhelming majority of our precious NHS workforce.
