Thames Valley and Wessex

Advanced clinical practitioners are registered healthcare professionals educated to masters level or equivalent and have the skills and knowledge to take on expanded roles and scope of practice caring for patients.

Roadmap Supervision Verification course

A Roadmap to Practice is a supportive document that provides a clear educational pathway from undergraduate to advanced practice for clinicians wishing to pursue a career in Primary Care. There is a Roadmap to Practice page where all national updates will appear as well as FAQs and details of webinars that will be taking place.

We are currently in the process of reviewing the Roadmap Supervision Verification (RMSV) course. We will update this section as soon as we are able to.

The monthly educational and supervision pilot programme offers support to paramedics new to Primary Care. The programme aims to identify and address common learning needs of paramedics new to delivering care in General Practice, to facilitate peer support and learning and to support clinical supervisors in meeting first contact practitioner (FCP) Roadmap Supervision requirements.

Wessex

Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIoW) ICB and Primary Care School Wessex team host a quarterly AHP network, for AHPs working across HIoW.

The aim of this network is to bring AHP colleagues together to provide peer support and to share education, information and best practice.

AHPs can study individual advanced practice modules at any of the local universities. These include history taking and physical examination, clinical decision making and independent prescribing. Southampton University also offers a PgCert for HTPA/DADM/IP.

Care of clients with long-term conditions

Care of clients with long-term conditions modules are available at Bournemouth University (BU) and can be studied at level 6 and 7. This unit will equip you with the knowledge and skills to recognise, assess and manage clients with a range of long term conditions. It will enable you to evaluate the evidence base for practice and critically reflect on their encounters with clients.

Care of clients with minor illness

Care of clients with minor illness modules are available at Bournemouth University (BU) and can be studied at level 6 and 7. The aim of this unit is to equip you with the skills necessary to independently assess, plan, treat and safely discharge adult clients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed minor illnesses.

Education for Health courses

Funding is available for asthma, COPD, diabetes, and heart failure modules, which can be studied at levels 5, 6 and/or 7. Long term condition refresher modules and spirometry updates are also available.

Voucher codes are issued following your application for funding, which you can use to book courses within the year.

Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme

The Elizabeth Garrett Anderson Programme is a 24-month master’s degree programme in healthcare leadership. It will equip you with confidence to challenge the status quo and drive real and lasting change to improve the patient experience.

Paediatric presenting conditions in Urgent and Primary Care

Paediatric presenting conditions in Urgent and Primary Care modules are available at Bournemouth University (BU) and can be studied at level 6 and 7. This unit has been designed for registered healthcare professionals in primary care and urgent care services caring for both adults and children. It will help practitioners to develop their knowledge and skills in the assessment, planning and treatment of a range of minor ailments commonly presenting in children.
