As of September 2024 the processes around the recognition of supervisors in Wessex has changed. The responsibility of keeping and maintaining a supervisor database is split between the quality team and the education teams in our trusts.

Recognition of Supervisor process

It is imperative that educational and clinical supervision is only provided to trainees by GMC recognised Educational and Named Clinical or Project Supervisors.

If a supervisor is not recognised, the GMC could decide this period of training does not count towards CCT and the doctor in postgraduate training would have to extend their training time.

For doctors in postgraduate training, it is equally important to check that their supervisors are GMC recognised, for every post. This information can be gained by asking the supervisor directly or by checking the GMC Medical Register

When completing the process of becoming a supervisor your details are included in the Wessex Supervisor Database and will be used to communicate information by the NHSE quality team and your organisation relating to renewals, supervisor activities, and surveys such as GMC NTS and NHSE NETS.
