As of September 2024 the processes around the recognition of supervisors in Wessex has changed. The responsibility of keeping and maintaining a supervisor database is split between the quality team and the education teams in our trusts.
An Educational Supervisor is a named senior doctor who has undertaken the required training to be recognised by the GMC. They are responsible for supporting, guiding, and monitoring the progress of a named trainee for a specified period of time. They may be in a different department, or in a different organisation, to the trainee.
If the trainee is in their department the Educational Supervisor may also act as the Named Clinical Supervisor and must understand how the responsibilities are different.
