The Safe Learning Environment Charter (SLEC) was developed during 2024 and sets out key themes for a supportive learning environment for all learners. The charter details 10 areas, that were identified by over 2.4k learners, educators and key stakeholders in health education, to support learners to become well-rounded professionals.
Following the publication of the charter, a group of universities with specific mention to the team at The University of Gloucester, have developed an end of placement learner evaluation survey. The survey is mapped to the themes created from the Safe Learning Environment Charter, and can be used across all health and social care professions.
A group of 14 universities operating across the South East, as well as inter-regionally, are piloting the end of placement learner survey (SLEC EoP survey), supported by the South East Education Quality Team. The project group currently gathers data to evaluate the suitability of the questionnaire for their courses; first results will be collected in summer 2026.
One of the key benefits of using a shared set of core-questions will be the comparability of learner feedback results across university courses and practice learning environments. This will enable practice learning teams to base their continuous improvement work on robust data and quality intelligence. More information on the project can be found here.
