Reviews and Appeals of ARCPs

Resident doctors who are not satisfied with the outcome of their Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP), have the right to request a review or submit an appeal. Reviews and appeals against Annual Review of Competence Progression (ARCP) outcomes will be conducted in accordance with the processes outlined in the Gold Guide (10th Edition).

If a resident doctor would like to request a review (outcomes 2 and 7.2) or appeal (outcomes 3 and 4) of their ARCP outcome, they should submit their request within 10 working days of being notified of the outcome in writing to the Wessex Appeals team.

Please note that new information, such as capabilities or evidence from assessments obtained after the date of the ARCP outcome under review, would not normally be considered. The panel would usually only consider other relevant information, including additional relevant evidence, where it formed part of the original considerations.

Submitting an Appeal

To begin the appeals process, complete the “Doctor in training’s grounds for appeal review or appeal”(Word Doc) clearly stating the grounds for appeal.

Submit the request within 10 working days of the date you were notified of the ARCP outcome to the Wessex Appeals team via email to england.wxappeals.se@nhs.net and attach a form and include all supporting documents.

Please carefully review the procedures outlined in the Gold Guide for specific guidance (para 4.158 onwards).
