The Primary Care school are accepting applications for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) funding for allied health professionals, mental health practitioners, nurses and nursing associates employed in an NHS GP practice or Primary Care Network (PCN) within Hampshire and Isle of Wight (HIOW).

How to apply

All colleagues working in HIOW must submit a CPD funding request, before applying directly with the course provider. Our CPD opportunities are listed on this webpage with hyperlinks to view further details on each course.

Submit the Continuing professional development funding application Microsoft Form or scan the QR code to request funding.

Your funding request will be reviewed by the Primary Care School team, and you will receive an email outcome with details on how to apply via your chosen provider, should your request be approved.

This course is available for 12 months from when you sign up and is fully chaptered, so you can learn in your own time and at your own pace.

About the course

The Red Whale older people and frailty course is designed to help you feel more confident in supporting our elderly patients – both at home and in nursing home settings. You will explore key concepts and skills in this area, such as:

• What is normal ageing… and what isn’t?
• The terrible triplets: frailty, multi-morbidity and polypharmacy
• How to do a really good medication review – and feel good about deprescribing!
• The 3D’s of deterioration: delirium, depression and dementia
• Common Primary Care problems: falls, recurrent infections and requests for antibiotics

General Practice Nurse (GPN) development

General Practice Nurse Foundations Course

The GPN Foundations course is a fully funded course for nurses who are new to General Practice (within the last year) in the HIOW Integrated Care System.

The course has been recommeded to GPNs who are new to general practice, or newly qualified, to support quality and consistency of the role, and to improve patient safety.

The programme can be undertaken at Level 6 (degree level) or Level 7 (masters level) and is delivered through attendance at interactive seminars, skills-based presentations and through building a portfolio of evidence from your practice.

Learners will require 25 days study leave over six/seven months in order to complete the programme requirements.

Starting September 2024, the PG Cert in practice education at University of Winchester is open to nurses, midwives and AHPs.

It is a one year, part-time distance learning course.

Whether you are new to Primary Care and need a good foundation or are evolving in your role and want to stay up to date, keeping on top of everything needed to deliver safe practice is a formidable task. This PCN support programme consists of 12 months of online learning with content including:
