Programme information

What is the Paramedic Education and Supervision Programme (PESP)?

NHS England and the College of Paramedics are working in partnership to deliver a free education and supervision programme offering support to paramedics new to Primary Care across Thames Valley and Hampshire and Isle of Wight. This is a free monthly programme delivered by multi-professional facilitators, encompassing clinical and non-clinical topics as well as the opportunity for peer support, networking and reflection.

Participation will require release from other duties one morning per month.

Eligibility criteria are any paramedic within the first two years of working in Primary Care in Thames Valley and Hampshire and Isle of Wight.

Sessions will be run virtually from 09:00am to 12:00pm on the final Tuesday morning of the month for 12months. The first session was on Tuesday 26 March 09:00 am to 12:00pm on Risk Assessment in Primary Care and the final session will be on Tuesday 25 February 2025.

Why attend the Paramedic Education and Supervision Programme?

We recognise there is a transition for all clinicians when first moving into Primary Care. This can create both learning needs and supervision needs, including the need to share experiences with peers and other members of the Primary Care team.

The aim of this extended pilot is to establish an education and supervision programme that supports the learning needs of paramedics new to Primary Care.

The objectives are to:

1. Identify and address common learning needs of paramedics new to delivering care in General Practice.

2. Facilitate a professional network of peer support and learning with small group work

3. Provide educational oversight and professional support to the paramedics new to Primary Care

4. Promote the transition to an educational culture of autonomous learning by the end of programme
