South East Study Leave – Accent Leave Manager

Accent Leave Manager (ALM) – in the South East

Accent Leave Manager (ALM) is the system most Thames Valley and Wessex trusts have adopted to enable resident doctors to submit their study leave applications. It is not used by:

  • GP Registrars working in a GP Practice placement or Integrated Training Post
  • Dental Trainees
  • Public Health Registrars
  • KSS Resident Doctors (including Foundation Doctors)

Access to ALM

Users will require a login and password for Accent Leave Manager (ALM), and only doctors in Thames Valley and Wessex programmes will be given access:

  • Everyone in a NHSE training programme has an ALM account (8 weeks before their programme starts).
  • The email address required to access ALM is the same as the email address used to access TIS Self-Service (TSS).
  • The passwords for TSS and ALM are held separately, and can be different, but the Reset Password link on the ALM login screen can be used if the ALM password is not known.
  • Please refer to this guide for assistance to activate your ALM account.

Approvals within ALM

(1) Apply 6 weeks in advance where possible. The system will not allow retrospective dates. Missing approvals result in rejected applications.

(2) ES approval (PDF of an email or a screenshot) MUST be uploaded with all applications.

(3) Evidence of TPD approval must also be uploaded where required (mainly Aspirational or International activities).

(4) Once you have submitted a study leave application on ALM, the ALM system will automatically send the application to the chosen person to approve study leave for your post, followed by the Trust Study Leave team, who will complete the initial approvals.

(5)  The ALM system will also automatically send the application to NHSE, if the activity is Aspirational or International. Is approved by NHSE, you will be issued with a unique Approval code.

Once you have submitted a study leave application on ALM, your colleagues in your Trust will complete the necessary approvals for your request in the Accent Leave Manager (ALM) system, and it is your Trust’s Study Leave Administrators who will approve or decline your request in the ALM at any point. Please contact them if you have any queries regarding the progression of your application once it is within the ALM system, as the NHSE Wessex Study Leave team does not have access to your applications on ALM.
