Lay Representatives

Background

Our work covers a range of professions, programmes and activity, from planning and commissioning, to recruiting and developing healthcare staff in a range of healthcare and community settings, including acute hospitals and primary care services. The Wessex Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education (PGMDE) team alone supports over 2,000 doctors and dentists throughout their training.

Lay Representatives are members of the public* who are appointed by HEE to ensure transparency, robust decision-making, inclusiveness and accountability. They provide scrutiny and assurance to HEE’s work, supporting compliance with the GMC standards for medical education and training, and the HEE Quality Strategy and Framework.

Lay Representatives also support the wider quality agenda within Wessex, through their work with the Quality Team and involvement in initiatives to support the multi-professional workforce.
