The NHS Fellowship in Clinical AI Welcomes Cohort 5 in Wessex

We’re delighted to announce the start of Cohort 5 of the NHS Fellowship in Clinical AI across the Wessex region, welcoming three clinicians. Joining from diverse clinical backgrounds, these fellows will spend the next year embedded in real-world AI deployment projects learning how to develop, implement, and safely monitor these tools within NHS clinical pathways.

Tolga Guven — Specialty Trainee Doctor in Ophthalmology

Project: Head Abnormality Detection AI-tool Deployment (HADAD-ARRT): A Real-world Randomised Trial, at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

Project: Moving in-house Oesophageal Cancer AI Medical Device Software from Clinical Validation to Full Clinical Implementation, at University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust

“I am delighted to be joining this fellowship and have the chance to help shape the use of AI within the NHS. AI tools have great potential to aid clinical workflow in a number of areas. I hope the fellowship will equip me with skills to implement AI in a safe and clinically effective way.”

Shayan Shahidi — Specialty Trainee Doctor in Otolaryngology

“As an ENT trainee working across multiple trusts, I’ve seen how care improves when digital change is led by clinicians who understand frontline realities.
