Over 40 people attended a successful evening event in February, to explore the role of Physician Associates across primary and secondary care in Wessex. The event aimed to increase the understanding of the Physician Associate role through a strategic lens. An insight was given into the training of the role alongside providing the opportunity to share some of the perceived barriers facing wider implementation of the role and exploring how the role could help support workforce challenges within the system. Speakers included Dr Nigel Watson (Wessex Local Medical Committees), Dr Paul Kennedy (Poole NHS FT), Dr Adam Cox (Southern Health NHS FT) and current Physician Associate students, alongside HEE leads and a Physician Associate Ambassador from HEE Thames Valley.
The event was open to all, but was highlighted as beneficial to those working in medical recruitment, workforce leads, practice managers, GPs and Primary Care Network clinical leads.
