Human Factors

Human factors refer to environmental, organisational and job factors, and human and individual characteristics, which influence behaviour at work in a way which can affect health and safety.

Assuring Safer Care: Embracing Human Factors for Improvement course

Wessex has offered a two-day course in Human Factors since 2017. Participants learn how human factors awareness can enhance performance at individual and team level. The programme is delivered by Dr Julia Harris, Associate Dean (HEE Wessex), and Professor Debbie Rosenorn-Lanng, Human Factors Consultant.

Course details

This course covers the reasons why information exchange, shared mental models, collaborative decision making and new models of distributive leadership are key to facilitating appropriate prioritisation and delegation of patient care.

The course would be particularly useful for those who are currently involved in, or planning to engage in, service development or quality improvement work. In addition, the following staff groups may find the course beneficial:

– Wessex doctors in training (ST4+)

– Wessex Staff and Associate Specialist doctors

– Any Wessex clinical/non-clinical staff at AfC band 6 or above
