Exam Skills – Preparation for Success

This half-day virtual course is aimed at any Wessex core and specialty doctors in postgraduate training (doctors) who are preparing for postgraduate exams.

All doctors are encouraged to participate, as the course is suitable for those who have not yet sat exams, as well as those who have. Wessex trust and staff grade doctors are also encouraged to attend if places are available.

Course content

The course covers all aspects of exam preparation and exam technique. A mixture of presentations, whole group and small group facilitated discussions is used.

Participation will support doctors to succeed in their exams through careful planning and awareness of all the factors that underpin success.

Programme

The programme is built around Understanding the ‘exam game plan’ and looks at:

– Study skills
– Time management
– Study planning
– Support networks
– Resources
– Motivation
– Wellbeing considerations
– Cultural issues in assessments
– Exam technique for multiple choice and written exams
– Communication skills for oral exams

Participants are also offered the opportunity of a personal coaching session (to be arranged after the event)

Attendees are advised to attend Exam Skills – Advanced Communication Skills for Oral Exams (using Video Enhanced Reflective Practice), to continue to develop further exam skills.
